Course contents :
The course consists in translations from English into French of texts dealing with philosophy, history and art history. Special attention will be given to specific grammatical and lexical difficulties.
Learning outcomes of the course :
One of the main objectives of this course is to help students to read specialized academic texts by drawing their attention to the lexical, grammatical but also syntactic specificities of the English language. The course will also teach them how to use a French/English dictionary more efficiently.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Basic knowledge of written English.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Translation of texts related to the fields of art, philosophy, classical culture and history. Specific grammar problems will be tackled in a contrastive perspective.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam consisting in the translation from English into French of a text that has not been studied in class as well as excerpts from texts translated in class. Students will be allowed to use a dictionary.
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 10% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20). Please note that the final exam for this course is cumulative.
