Course contents :
The course focuses on modernization, long-time waves, critical approach to the concepts of social cleavages, mass organization, legitimation of power, on the basis of theories developed by some political scientists and of the comparison between various contemporary political systems both within Europe and outside Europe. Case studies illustrate each of the various concepts we consider.
The course is held every odd year (2015-2016, 2017-2018...)

Help students to understand, that is, give meaning to, a particular action or the way an institution functions, or the recurrent use of a political practice.

Grounded knowledge of basics social mechanisms.
