Course contents :
Based on clinical scenarios, several physiological and pathological conditions are discussed that psychologists or speech therapists can see in some patients. The main phases of somatic development are presented from birth to adulthood. Among the disorders : consequences of prematurity, cerebral palsy, child abuse or neglect, precocious or delayed puberty, exploratory behaviors at adolescence, chronic diseases and eating disorders
Learning outcomes of the course :
To understand somatic and medical issues to development of normal child or the child suffering from different diseases in order to integrate those aspects in the management of such children or patients when seen in consultation, in collaboration with other health care professionnals.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Ten lessons of 3 hours with each based on the following sequence: a scenario related to the topic of the lesson is analysed by tjhe students in small groups, the students comments and questions are collected at the board and discussed; the underlying information and concepts are illustrated through an interactive lecture. Finally, the learning objectives are given.
Recommended or required readings :
The powerpoint presentations used for the different courses are made available to the students before the lesson (posted on myULg), including a CD-Rom.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral exam based on the analysis of one cluinical scenario randomely taken among a list of about 15 scenarios communicated to the students at the end of the course. The student has some time for written preparation. At the last course, a typical scenario is discussed with the students as expected for the exam.
