Course contents :
The topic for each year's lessons will be the one covered in the International Liege Colloquium on Ocean Dynamics (http://modb.oce.ulg.ac.be/colloquium/) which is held every year in April-May in Liege.
Three preparatory sessions will be scheduled before the colloquium, in order to prepare the topic with the students.
The students will attend at least 5 talks during the Colloquium, and a final written work will be presented individually.
For students wishing to follow this lessons that are not in Liege during the second half of the academic year, the assistance to other seminars can be accpted.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Opening to other aspects of marine science.
At the end of these lessons, the student will be able to obtain basic information over an emerging oceanographic topic.
 
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Good backgroung in general oceanography.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Three preparatory sessions will be scheduled in order to prepare the topic covered by the Colloquium. A summary of the topic, and the main research lines will be identified. Several scientific papers will be chosen, read and analysed to familiarise the students with the topic.
When the colloquium program is known, the presentations to be listened to will be chosen. If possible, an interview with certain speakers will be scheduled during the colloquium.
The students will then write a report summarising the topic covered by the colloquium, and the contribution made by the presenters of the talks attended.

The most relevant scientific papers will be identified during the preparatory sessions and they must be read by the students.
