Course contents :
The course is intended for occupational health physicians who have an advisory and educational role as regard health matters in enterprises.

It involves four parts :

  • Basic concepts: prevention, public health, health education, health promotion
  • Models of behaviour changes
  • Planification of health education programmes using a structured approach, the Precede-Proceed model
  • Critical analysis of intervention programmes in work settings
Learning outcomes of the course :
The course aims at giving the physician :

  • an understanding of the basic concepts underlying health promotion at work
  • an understanding of the main models of behavioural change
  • a methodology to conduct a needs assessment in the enterprise
  • a framework to design and implement an health education programme in a work setting

Assessment methods and criteria :
Evaluation involves :

  • the critical reading of a scientific paper dealing with a public health intervention in a work setting
  • an oral discussion (20 min) with the teacher underlining the paper main features and pointing out the concepts and/or models used by the authors to develop their program.
