Learning outcomes of the course :
| By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the basic concepts of phonology and morphosyntax covered in the class. Students will also be able to identify phenomena that remain problematic wrt this analysis framework. | ||
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
| Grammatical analysis capabilities are strongly advised. | ||
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| Theoretical lessons with exercises and oral presentations (by students).
Students will investigate the sample data before they are taught the theoretical notions that show how linguistics handles the observed phenomena. During an active session, small groups of students will be in charge of debates/exercises on the analysis of specific materials. After the active session, the teacher will gather the results of the procedure, correct mistakes and complete the explanations. Therefore, the stress is on debating, on reflexivity and analytic procedures. Students are required to be able to account for the process that lead them to teir personal analyses, rather than to provide a mere solution. |
