Course contents :

| The course aims at introducing the fundamentals of general hydrology with a particular focus on the topics that concern bioengineers.
It introduces all the concepts with a focus on the role of arable lands in the flow partition. It deals with hydrometry and data management. In the context of hydrological data bases, it leads us to deal with data quality tests, data completion, and statistical analysis of extremes. The course illustrates its relevance through the presentation of on going research studies among the group. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
||||||||||||||
| The course contributes to the development of the following abilities :
- measure the variables and parameters of the environment in view to monitor it - Identify and understand the flows (energy, water, nutrients, gases) exchanged between the compartments - quantify the threats to natural ressources - conceive and use the databases in order to analyse a problem Furthermore, the courses certifies the following ability : - analyse the behaviour of a natural system. More specifically, after completing the course the student is expected to -define main hydrological terms -describe technical measurement tools -discuss about main measurements pros and cons -calculate the terms of water cycle within a watershed -analyse observed time series (flow, rain, ...) -make a preliminary interpretation of hydrological data -explain different simple modelling systems, their principles and limitations |
