Course contents :
- Introduction to the microbiology of the environment (importance of microbiology, characterization of viruses, bacteria and protozoans, algaes, growth and metabolism) - Microbial ecology of aquatic environments - Techniques for sampling and microbiological analysis of water: virology, bacteriology, parasitology- Concepts of epidemiology - Water uses and sanitary risks, hydric diseases - Environmental health, Eco-Health - Aspects of expertise in the area of the microbiology of water - Applications in developing countries (PEDs) - Practical work in the field and in the laboratory
Learning outcomes of the course :
- to become aware of the importance of microbiological and sanitary aspects of water
- to build expertise and establish a microbiological diagnosis of water quality.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
- Knowledge of basic biology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
- Field work: taking samples - Seeding and identification of the main bacteria of faecal contamination - Drafting a report
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
12 hours of theory 3 hours of field work for sampling 4 hours of practical work: seeding and identification 5 hours exercice : hydric diseases
