Course contents :

| Introduction to the notions of heritage, (historical) monument, heritage value. Evolution through history of the attitudes towards build heritage. Theories in the 19th and 20th centuries: - conservation vs restoration in the 19th century (Ruskin, Viollet-le-Duc),- post WW1 reconstruction, - development of the restauro critico (Boito, Brandi, Philippot), - important charters and conventions, - integrated conservation, - the question of authenticity. | ||||||||
