Course contents :
The course is made up of 2 different parts : 1. Determination of the biological value of protein sources in the rat and the human. 2. Ration formulation for the the dairy herd
Learning outcomes of the course :
The course aims at training you to use your knowledge and undertsanding to solve a problem in the area of the animal feeding and nutrition by methods that include an animal experiment, ration computer formulation, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information in order to reach valid conclusions. Particularly, the student will be trained:
  • To determine in vivo the biological value of proteins;
  • To formulate a balanced ration for the dairy herd;
  • To write and to present a scientific report.
After completing the course the student is expected to have:
  • The ability to formulate and solve problems in the field of the animal feeding and nutrition;
  • The ability to critically evaluate data and draw conclusions;
  • The ability to work effectively as a member in a team.

During the animal experiment (3 weeks), one student per group must be present (1 to 1,5 h) daily in the Centre d'Essais des Productions Animales (CEPA).Any student not able to attend these activities must warn in advance the teacher. The written reports must be sent via email at latest on the last day of the lecturer period in December of the academic year. Late reports will not be considered and an absence mark will automatically be given.
