Course contents :
The objective of the course will be to ensure the clinical application of teaching delivered at the University of Liege in a professional environment. The student will, under no circumstances, be given any tasks that are alien to his or her training.
The final course on deafness will be a minimum of 360 hours long (18 ECTS) spread over two activities: the practice of audiometric exams and logopedics and the practice of audio-phonatory speech therapy for patients with hearing disability.
The course on audiometry will take place in the audiology department (ENT Department of the University Hospital of Liege). The course on patient treatment, in particular, for deaf patients, will take place in an Ambulatory Readaptation Centre of a specialized school in a private logopedics practice.
The two courses will begin as early as possible after the successful completion of the Masters 1 in logopedics. They will finish at the latest at the end of the second year of the Masters 2 (end of August). The compilation of the number of hours completed is not left up to the students but is the responsibility of the course organizer.
Generally, the course on audiometry is carried out during a full week and then one day per week for one term. The logopedics re-education course will be organized in the form of 1 full day or 2 half-days per week from September to May.
Given the fact that the student must master the specific means of communication required for deaf patients, the time devoted to teaching these methods is covered in the 18 ECTS (LSFB, LPC, AKA, lip-reading…).
The student has the possibility of completing an approved maximum of 24 hours of external training under the following conditions:
-The training must specifically be in logopedics and related to the course theme and validated by the academic coordinator of the course.
-The number of hours must be strictly respected;
-The student must inform his course coordinator about the training course he or she wishes to follow and have the number of hours involved approved.
-The presence sheet must be supplied to the course coordinator and the course supervisor and annexed to the course report;
-A critical account of the training course (a maximum of 3 pages, including a description of the training-subject, lecturers, location of course- a short summary and a critical analysis) must be submitted to the course coordinator and course supervisor.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Assessment will take place based on the assessment scale for the course based on the level of competence. The scorecard is given to the student at the beginning of the academic year so that he or she can submit it to the course coordinator.
  • At the half-way point in the course a training assessment is proposed. It takes place between the student and the course coordinator.
  • At the end of the course, a training assessment (certifiable by the teaching team) is proposed. The student submits the scorecard which has been duly completed by the course coordinator to the Ulg teaching team (the student must annex the scorecard to his training course report). The course coordinator will also indicate a qualitative assessment of the course (Excellent, Very good, Good, satisfactory…). The assessment carried out in the course location will be marked by the teaching team.
The final mark will be weighted as follows: 50% for the audiology course and the remaining 50% is given for the logopedics reeducation course and the course report, assessed by the teaching team. The student will submit his report by the 1st of June at the latest for the 1st session or the 15th of August for the 2nd session.
Note on spelling: proficiency in French language is part of the basic skills required for the professional practice of logopedics. To this extent, if the documents (course-work or training-course report) contain more than 10 spelling errors (in terms of use and/or agreement) in the 1st session, they will result in a mark that will be considered seriously insufficient (5/20) in the 1st session and must be submitted in the 2nd session. If the documents submitted in the 2nd session contain more than 10 spelling errors, the student will have two points deducted from his or her overall mark..
Note concerning delays in submitting documents: The student commits to respecting the deadline for submitting documents (course-work and course report). Documents submitted late will result in a mark that will be considered seriously insufficient (5/20) in the 1st session and must be resubmitted in the 2nd session. If the documents submitted in the 2nd session are late, the student will have 2 points deducted from his or her overall mark.

Organizational remarks :
Obligations of the course students :
-The student must observe the principles of ethics and code of practice relating to logopedics both with regard to the patients that are entrusted to his or her care and the team that caters for him or her.
-He or she will not complete a training course with any course coordinator that is personally known to them (family member, friend…) and who could consequently lack impartiality with regard to assessment of the student.
-The completion of 360 course hours is obligatory. In the case of absence, even when justified by medical certificate, the hours missed will not be included in the account by the course coordinator or the clinical supervisor.
-From the start of the year, and before beginning the courses, the student will complete and submit the following documents: the course conventions will be submitted to the apparitors (indispensable documents to ensure being covered by the university’s insurance).
