Swine clinic

Swine clinics develop activities concerning internal medicine, surgery and/or theriogenology relative to the pig.

Outpatient clinic

Animal clinic production consists of four activity contexts. The first is the so-called individual cases ruminants (Head Dr. K.Touati) clinic, the second is that of clinical medicine herds (Head Prof. Ch. Hanzen) one third of the outpatient clinic (Head Prof. H. Guyot) and the fourth that of swine clinic (Head: Dr. M.Laitat). Student training is organized around advisory activities (individual clinical cases), practical work trimming feet and scoring of animals on a farm (outpatient clinic), an exercise conducted data analysis of reproduction and udder health (clinical herds), practical work and seminars (swine clinic).

Learning outcomes of the course :
Ruminants clinic (individual cases)

At the end of the week, students should be able to do:
- a complete anamneses
- a complete clinical exam of animals
- discuss the results of clinical exam
- give the first treatment

Swine clinic

Swine clinics consists in different praticals.

Outpatient clinic

Like other clinical , clinical animal production gives you the opportunity to compare the theoretical lessons learned , past or present , in field situations as authentic as possible . This confrontation is likely to develop your professional skills. These are of various kinds. They are in effect disciplinary , organizational, interpersonal , communication , personal and reflective . It seems appropriate to clarify the content and give some attainable by students of the second GMV examples. By disciplinary skills means the ability to acquire , understand and engage in as authentic as possible direct knowledge related to the fields of internal medicine, surgery and reproduction of ruminants and pigs situations. As examples include - Carry out an individual or herd history - Make a general and special examination proper - Choose an appropriate strategy propaedeutic By organizational skills, it means the ability to manage their learning time to define the steps of making a work called ( concept map , individual case report or herd .... ) , control of scientific research . As examples include - The achievement of a single concept map or group - Make time testing prerequisites required - Arrive on time in clinical - Management of clinical records - The ability to use IT tools for data management ( Excel ) or reporting (Word, PWP ) - Planning a TFE By interpersonal skills , means respect for others , listening to advice of his peers and supervisors , the expression of opinion supported the demonstration of leadership in group work or support consultation , the ability to integrate into a working group to discuss and exchange views on an action to take . For communication skills must include the ability to manage an oral or written information transmission. For example we can quote - The achievement of a history with a breeder or a colleague - An expression of opinion on a case or making a group work such as a concept map - The achievement of a TFE - Involvement in the confrontation of ideas By reflexive skills , you can hear the ability to critically analyze a situation or information. As examples include - Analysis of information provided by the farmer or the practitioner or supervisor within a history - A review of a scientific paper to identify the relevant information collected by the principle of EBM - Decide whether or not to further tests - Make the choice of a therapeutic strategy - Decide whether or not to refer a case - A posteriori analysis of the result Personal skills by means specific to each individual intrinsic qualities including - A sense of responsibility - Willingness to assume the permanent concern for quality - The need to demonstrate a spirit of initiative

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Ruminants clinic (individual cases)

All courses and labs linked to ruminant medecine, surgery and theriogenology acquired the previous years of study.

Herd health management

Swine clinic

An active and effective participation of these clinics you require a synthetic knowledge of physiology courses, embryology and gross anatomy and topography of swine as well as information provided within the framework of the semiotics of animals during production. Basic notions in pharmacology, surgery and ecology applied to domestic animals are required.

Outpatient clinic

Active and effective participation in these clinics you require a synthetic knowledge of physiology course, embryology and general and topographic anatomy of ruminants and swine and information taught in the course of semiotics animal production. The book is clinical in this area, a key element. Whereas the real importance of these 'previous knowledge for successful clinical training and their success, the department has mandated the implementation of a test before the first of four clinical weeks (see below the point estimates).

Outpatient clinic

The outpatient clinic is held from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 12:00 on the website of B42 ( seminar room outpatient clinic ) . Monday: 8:30 to 9:30 : Briefing, clinical presentation. Monday: 9:30 to 12:00 : self-learning activity ¿ multimedia webinar on ecampus " Individual approach and herd in the prevention of lameness in cattle - Trimming function ." Reading this seminar can be done either at home or in the outpatient room ( 2 PC available ) or in any other computer room of the faculty. It should be covered completely by 11:59 p.m. on Monday ( it is allowed to go before the start of the clinic). Tuesday : 8:30 to 12:00 : TP trimming of legs. RV at B42 , outpatient room. Organized by a Scientific Collaborator (Dr. MP Decoster ) . It will be checked your knowledge of lameness and trimming (see multi -media seminar ) . In case of non- obvious knowledge of the subject , the student will be expelled from the TP ( then noted "absent" ) . Wednesday : 8:30 to 12:00 : TP "Scoring" . Students are required to go to the Provincial Farm Jevoumont ( La Reid ) , on their own , to 8:30 . RV at the entrance . This lab will be headed by a Scientific Collaborator ( Dr. H. Pestieau , Mobile: 0495-570465 ) . Info on the farm: http://www.provincedeliege.be/enseignement/secondaire/fr/node/679 To get to the farm, please refer to the guidance of Appendix 1 ( on ecampus ) . You will be asked for this lab to score the animals ( see course 2GMV herds and clinical medicine book medicine herds ) to encode the data AND interpret thereafter. Please bring overalls and boots OWN ! The Database will not be allowed if you have not seen the material ( control knowledge ) and if you do not have your hardware ( the student will be so noted "absent" ) . A scoring sheet to complete is available in Appendix 2 ( on ecampus ) . Thursday : 8:30 to 12:00 : Interpretation of data collected during the TP scoring yesterday. A report of your " audit - scoring " will be performed (one for the whole group) . On Thursday, you can correspond with Dr. H. Pestieau email and submit your questions. To Friday 8:30 am at the latest, you are required to report to the report (by email pestieau.henri@skynet.be, copy hugues.guyot@ulg.ac.be ! ) Which will be noted. A framework for assistance in writing your report is in Appendix 3 ( on ecampus ) . Friday : 8:30 to 12:00 : passive debriefing ( follow exercises presented by the students of clinical medicine group herd , supervised by Ch Hanzen ) . RV seminar room " repro " ( next to the outpatient room). For reasons beyond our control , the order of TP may vary from week to week and may not correspond to what is above or cancellations are possible ( we depend on external scientific collaborators) . However, we will try to organize an event instead when cancellation , but can not guarantee it !

Swine clinic

An evaluation of the knowledge-being, the knowledge and the know-how of each student will occur during the Swine clinic.

Outpatient clinic

This clinic is being formative and certification evaluation .
The formative tests relating to the pre-requisites Theriogenology are available online via the platform Exams ( Course bovine and swine medicine ) .
We will conduct a summative evaluation of your knowledge and know -how in each clinic under the clinical animal production. The end result will be the average of the results obtained in each of the four clinics.
The evaluation of knowledge
Ambulatory clinic , knowledge will be evaluated by the scientific staff and / or assistants / teachers at the clinic. It will consist of an oral assessment questions before the TP (Dr MP Decoster , Dr H Pestieau : individual evaluation ) , and the evaluation of the TP scoring ( collective assessment). The expertise and knowledge will be assessed during the TP.

The assessment of life skills
By assessment of life skills means the presence in the hospital , the tests of pre-requisites , personal involvement in the proposed activities. We emphasize that failure to be reported before the start of the clinic. A justification must be sent as soon as possible to the student secretariat and the secretariat of ruminants pole ( marie.Delacroix @ ulg.ac.be 04 366 40 20). A catch-up clinic or lab is only possible if the absence was announced before and confirmed by a certificate after . Contact will be made ¿¿by the student with the responsibility to organize the terms of this catch . If more than three unjustified absences were found , the student will not be allowed to submit the examination certification .

Failure to follow these recommendations will reduce the clinical outcome.
Evaluations of supervisors and clinical activities . At the end of each clinical activity organized by a teacher, supervisor or research assistant , you will be asked to complete a satisfaction questionnaire ( anonymous ) on the activities and supervision provided. Feel free to send us your comments to help us improve your learning activities .

Work placement(s) :

Organizational remarks :
Ruminants clinic (individual cases)

Attendance taking in the clinic is automatic. An absence must be communicated by telephone prior to the beginning of the clinic. If it is not communicated it will be considered unjustified, unless it is a very serious matter. Medical (or others)certificates justifying the absence must be turned in to the secretary's office at the RUPO pole. A copy should also be turned in at the FMV administrative secretariat.
Unjustified absences will be taken into account during final deliberation.
Students should have adequate equipment for the ruminant clinic activities.

To do

Swine clinic

Attendance to Swine clinic is obligatory and will be verified. Students must wear clean and adequate clothes to visit piggeries.

Outpatient clinic

important Notes - The clinic starts on Monday at 8:30. Students must be present in the premises of ruminants, pigs services (B42) (entrance from the corridor to the left of the entrance of services). Any activity in which the student is enrolled (seminars, briefing, debriefing, TP / TD) should be worked. In case of late arrival or absence of necessary equipment, the student will be considered absent. In case of unauthorized absence, a "0" will be assigned as clinical notes for the week. - Multi-Media Seminar: complete reading of this seminar is mandatory. It will be controlled on ecampus the seminar was made ¿¿and the play time will also be controlled. If the seminar has not been read, the student will be considered a "no non-justified" and a "0" will be assigned as clinical notes for the week.
It should be noted that all clinical (animal identity, client, veterinarian) which students have access are strictly confidential and can not in any way departing from the scope of the ULg-FMV-Clinic Department of Animal Production. Any pregnant student must absolutely prevent the head of the clinic earlier (Monday 8:30) as zoonotic risks associated with participation in this clinic.
