In this sequence of lessons, the various cognitive developmental disorders will be presented and illustrated using behavioral and neuroimaging data. These problems will be addressed in the context of major neurodevelopmental disorders including: (1) genetic syndromes (eg Williams or velocardiofacial syndrome), (2) developmental disorder (eg, disorders of attention hyperactivity disorder or dysphasia), (3) learning disorders (dyslexia and dyscalculia), (4) psychiatric disorders (the cases of autism) and (5) in the case of clearly identifiable lesions or brain diseases (for example, the case of children with cerebral palsy, epileptic children or head trauma). The impact of psycho-affective disorders on cognitive functioning of children will be discussed. The practical work, structured as problem based learning session, aims at giving the students the opportunity to familiarize with different types of complaints encountered in neuropediatric consultation. The student will be asked to clarify the complaint and its context and will be encouraged to formulate hypotheses to explain the difficulties of the child. Audio-visual material and readings will be provided to support the student's reasoning process. In this course, the student will be given the opportunity to consult the results of cognitive evaluation and will be encouraged to take a step back from the practice field.
