Course contents :  
1. Introduction : the development of the disabled person : perceptions, concepts and models
-Evolution of the perceptions of the disability.
-classification and models of disability: PPH and CIF. Using this model in practice
-key concepts: impairment, disability, inadaptation, social participation, inclusion

2 The announcement of diagnosis: an issue for all persons involved in the therapeutic process.
- The steps of the announcement
- The impact on the family
- The experience of siblings
development of the disabled person at various problems occuring at successive stage of development (from birth to adult age)
3.Intellectual disability : overview, development of young children with ID : motor , langage, cognitive development in various syndromes
Personality and behavioral disorders in ID
 
4. Motor and neuro-motor disability :
-overview
-development of the child with cerebral palsy : characteristics in cognitive and personnality functionning
- Multiple and severe disability
5. Rationale and principle of early intervention
- evaluation of needs and elaboration of an individualized plan - the work in a multidisciplinary team. the place of the physiotherapist in the process
6. Integration and quality of life : theoretical and practical aspects.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The student will be able to identify the characteristics of the psychological development of people with physical or mental impairments (syndromes) and will have a better understanding of the psychological issues of the interventions and of the role of the physiotherapist in this process.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Lecture needs to have acquired some notions in neurology and general psychology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
This course is based primarily on formal lectures  illustrated by example, discussions, and films. Profesionnals will be invited to share their expérience. The slides will be posted on the dedicated course area on e-campus
