I. Introduction
II. Drug quality control; regulatory aspects
III. Drug purity and stability
IV. Separation methods for drug analysis in complex matrix
V. Chirality and analysis
VI. Quality control of raw materials
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To provide the student the appropriate knowledge:
- to understand and use efficiently pharmacopoeias, the reference books for medicines.
to select the most appropriate analytical method for a given problem in the context of drug analysis (active substances, related substances, complex mixtures, pharmaceutical products, biological fluids).
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
- Introduction to analytical chemistry - Qualitative and quantitative analytical chemistry

Assessment methods and criteria :  
written exam (16 pt for theory; 4 pt for practical work)
Work placement(s) :  
The practical work (28 h) will allow the student to gain knowledge of the monographs and the analytical approach to be integrated in order to identify and quantify drugs in complex matrix. 7 sessions will be organized.

Attendance during practical work is mandatory. In case of justified non-attendance leading to an attendance rate below 90%, the teacher reserves the right to take any action she judges necessary in order to allow the students to catch up the session(s).
