| Pharmacognosy (partim 1) is mainly focused on phytochemistry: presntation of various kinds of primary (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins ) and mainly secondary metabolites (phenylpropanoids: lignans, flavonoids, coumarins.., terpenoids and steroids, alkaloids...) |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| To treat the education of pharmacy students in the multidiciplinary field of pharmacognosy:-informations on phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly) ;-description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -specific methods of quality control of pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoiea ( drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...) |

| Practicals and seminars:
Extraction , identification and assay of active principles from medicinal plants (monographs of European Pharmacopoeia).
Attendance during practical work is mandatory. In case of justified non-attendance leading to an attendance rate below 80%, the teachers reserve the right to take any action they judge necessary in order to allow the students to catch up the session(s).

Practicals: Laboratory of chemistry ( 4th floor) of the Pharmaceutical Institute (B36).

Assessment methods and criteria :

| Written examination about definite matter. Practicals: 10% of total in the exception of a deficiency in the theoric final exam. |
