Course contents :  
Introduction to the basis of comparative education, be it diachronical or synchronical, through a broad set of approaches: from international comparative assessments, indicators from international organizations (Oecd, Unesco, Eurydice...) to monographies and case studies.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The seminar aims at the following learning outcomes:
- understand the scope and interest of comparative education
- understand the stakes, challenges and limits of such an approach
- get to know the main international agencies in education: Eurydice, Oecd, Unesco, Unicef...
- integrate information coming from different documents and write a report synthetizing different sources or indicators of a question studied through a comparative approach, in a language accessible for a broad public audience.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
No prerequisites.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The first introductory lecture will be given by the professors. In the following sessions, experts leading international agencies in education will be invited.
Regarding practical work, students will be asked to chose a question in education to be studied under a comparative angle, and to provide a synthesis across several documents or sources.
A non-limited list will be provided. The question to be explored may be about all levels of formal and informal education, from nursery care to University degrees and adults' skills.
Students will work by small groups under the supervision of the assistants.
At the end of the term, they will give a presentation to the class, which will be assessed.
