 | Trauma and orthopaedic diseases ameanable to surgical treatment. Only the situations that a general practitioner or emergency doctor can encounter are described. A special focus is however kept on rare but threatening conditions that may not be missed. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

 | At the end of the anesthesia, analgesia and intensive care lectures, the student should be able to:
- Define anesthesia, local anesthesia, regional anesthesia, general anesthesia, analgesia, sedation, hypnosis and to explain differences between these concepts
- Understand the fundamentals of preoperative assessment
- Explain the aims and the principles of preparation for anesthesia
- Understand the management of patients with comorbidities undergoing anesthesia
- Describe the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery
- Explain the principles of general anesthesia
- Describe the steps of general anesthesia
- Understand the principles of regional anesthesia
- Describe the most important regional blocks
- Name the various categories of anesthetic agents (general or regional anesthesia)
- Explain the principles (the fundamentals) of hypnosis and of its use in anesthesia
- Master the basic principles of patient monitoring in the postoperative period
- Explain the principles of postoperative rehabilitation
- Understand the physiologic basis of postoperative pain
- Explain the principles of postoperative analgesia, including the pharmacologic basis
