Course contents :  
This course is a general introduction to the aquaculture world (mainly marine aquaculture world). Aquaculture is replaced in its socio-economical context, its historical context and its environmental context. Basic general techniques are presented and applied to the different marine taxa presently cultivated. This course is informative and concerns students without a background in aquaculture. According to the availability, a visit of a pisciculture will illustrate the main aquaculture characteristics exposed during the theoritical course.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
1. To present general aspect of marine aquaculture (concept, technics, diversity). 2. To place marine aquaculture in its socio-economical context.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
None.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Visit at the pisciculture of Tihange (e.g. CEFRA, ULg).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Schedule determined at the beginning of the Academic year (first semester).
One afternoon for the visit of the pisciculture.
Recommended or required readings :  
Notes and powerpoint presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
oral exam or summary of a scientific paper or work illustrating a project of marine aquaculture.
