Lecturer :  Jean-Philippe Ponthot
Language(s) of instruction :
English language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Course contents :
Teaches, based on experimental observations, how to build mathematical models describing the non linear behavior of solids, especially elasto-plastic, visco-plastic and visco elastic material models. Subsequently describes the numerical algorithms suited for model solution.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Being able to

  • Understand and design complex material models
  • Understand numerical techniques to solve the model
  • Use a finite element code for structure simulation in the elastic-plastic domain.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Mechanics of materials, continuum mechanics and finite elements.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Exercises + personal project
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
1st quadrimester. Face to face + exercices + computer project.
