Learning outcomes of the course :

| In agreement with the ILOs, the course aims at developing and strengthening the four skills (listening and reading comprehension, oral and written expression) in the field of everyday and business English. |

| This course is not a beginners'course. Students should have a good basic knowledge (secondary/ high school level or ALTE level 1 or Council of Europe level A2) |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| The course is divided into two main parts: a review of the grammar on the one hand (with the syllabus English level 1), and an introduction to business vocabulary on the other hand (with the Market Leader).
The exercises are integrated in the course and do not make up a separate course. They include grammar exercises, listening and reading comprehension as well as communication activities based on Market Leader. The course requires active participation on the students' part, notably during in-class debates and case studies organised in groups.
The student will also have to study a part of the basic vocabulary from "Le Bled", on which he will be interrogated at the January and June exams. Finally, the student will have to prepare at home a file with press articles and videos (Press File) and answer questions about it at the June exam.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| The course is taught 3 hours a week (2+1). The in-class course is taught to groups of about 50 students. The students will be divided according to their level of English; a placement test will be organised on Friday 19 September.
Students are required to prepare every week the grammar exercises and the activities from the Market Leader. They also have to review the basic vocabulary from "Le Bled" and to work individually (and at home) with the Press File.

Assessment methods and criteria :

Written exam in January (30%): grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension of an unseen text and essay. Listening comprehension on December 15 from 8:00 to 10:00.

Written exam in June (30%): vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension of an unseen text and questions on the Press File. Listening comprehension on May 11 from 8:00 to 10:00.

Oral exam during the 2nd semester (30%): Business meeting: simulation in groups of 6 students of a meeting in business English based on a Case Study given to the students 1h before their exam. See syllabus for dates.

Mid-term tests (10%): 2 tests ( 3 November and 23 March from 8:00 to 10:00) on the vocabulary and the grammar of each unit.

Re-sit: written exam (70%) and oral (30%) exam.

| Students can find the keys to the grammar exercises and the Market Leader activities as well as the vocabulary on newlol@.
The listening comprehensions and additional exercises are available on the website.
A placement test to determine each student's level (and to allow us to form the groups) will be organised on Friday 19 September. This test is compulsory.
Preparatory courses are organised at the end of August for future students. |
