Course contents :  
Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
- Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.
- Enhancing students' ability to cope with specialized English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
- Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook, videos and films.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2-C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the B-level course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The course was designed to help students: -broaden their domain-specific vocabulary through a variety of exercises (e.g. drilling, fill-in-the-gaps, multiple-choice exercises);
-improve their reading skills through a selection of psychology-related texts in different registers (scientific texts and short stories);
-enhance their listening skills by watching videos and films dealing with psychological issues;
-develop their speaking skills through oral presentations, group work, role-play, debates, etc.
-work on their writing skills (PPTs, summaries, comments, reports)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Students are required to prepare the units from the coursebook for the inclass course and do exercises marked "eCampus" online. This preparation work varies in time depending on the students' previous knowledge.

- "Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English" or "The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English"(online version is available).
- "English Grammar in Use" (intermediate), Cambridge University Press.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
1. Written assignment (1/20)
Students will be asked to carry out an experiment and then describe it (1 page)
2. Listening comprehension exam in May and August (3/20)
3. Oral presentation in class (4/20)
Students will be asked to give a presentation on one of the texts from the textbook (in groups of 4-5 students)
4. Oral exam in January and August (4/20)
15-minute discussion based on one text from the textbook and one text of your own choice related to one of the topics from the textbook.
6. Written exam in May and August (8/20)
Reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text.
Vocabulary and grammar exercises based on the units in the textbook.
Writing exercises (students will be asked to write answers to open questions, to comment on quotations, and/or to express their opinion on one of the given problems).
N.B. The marks obtained for in-class work and the oral presentation count for both exam sessions in May and August.

In the 1st term, the class is taught for two and a half hours every week.
 
In the 2nd term, there are two sessions of three hours each and one session of one and a half hours.
