Course contents :  
These topics will be covered during the lectures : 


  • information processing systems, hardware and software ;
  • Internet and information research ;
  • personal productivity software : mostly spreadsheets, but also word processors and presentation software.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The main goal is to enable the students to use tools they will certainly use during their studies and professional life.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
None.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
  • Short theoretical introduction to each theme.
  • Practical homework on the e-learning platform Lol@, including exercises on computer.
  • Help on those exercises available during practical sessions in the labs.
  • Solution's submission on Lol@.
  • Group assignment (a short talk supported by a presentation tool) carried out and presented during the quadrimester.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
  • A significant part of the course is delivered in distance-learning mode, through LOl@. 
  • But those activities are supported by face-to-face introduction lectures and practical sessions.
  • Coaching will also be provided by the teachers via mail. Moreover, appointments can be made by mail. 
  • On LOl@, modules are composed by individual learning activities. The students are free to organise their work, assuming that the due dates are met. 
  • These activities include watching videos. It is thus recommended to have a broadband Internet access. 
  • Software used : Windows 7, Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), free software (Firefox) or available for the ULg students (Zimbra) . 
  • The students also have a free access to computer rooms at B31 and other computer rooms in the university.

  • on-line lecture notes and videos ;
  • solved problems and documents used during the courses ;
  • on-line evaluation system ;
  • timetables, supplementary exercises...
Assessment methods and criteria :  
3 Assesment methods :
  • A : written exam on computer in the labs (MCQ and exercises on office tools) ;
  • B : evaluation of exercises submited on Lol@ ;
  • C : group assignment's note.
Evaluation's weighting
In January:
  • A : 80% of the final note ;
  • B : 10% of the final note ;
  • C : 10% of the final note.
In June and September : 
  • A : 100% of the final note.
  • The group assignment's and submited exercises' notes are not taken into account anymore.
