Course contents :

| The course focuses on reading authentic texts related to landscape architecture, looking for information, finding references,... Many of the reading tasks involve other skills, for example reading and note-taking, reading and reporting...
It is intended as a refreshment course within the context of landscape architecture. It concentrates on the grammatical constructions which are typical of scientific English (passive forms, imperatives, comparatives and superlatives, possibility...).
It provides guidance on how to write business emails taking into account formal and informal styles and email conventions.
It lays special emphasis on vocabulary acquisition, correct pronunciation and trains students to use (on-line) dictionaries properly.
It allows students to give informative presentations in the context of their field of interest, and to exchange opinions. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| Within the context of landscape architecture, the course aims at developing a great variety of reading strategies, such as skimming, scanning, predicting....
The aim of the course is also to highlight specific areas of the writing styles (emails);
It aims at developing oral skills. It suggests techniques for effective informative speaking (emphasizing important points, using smooth structure, clear language, giving priority to a good opening and closing, effective supporting materials, involving the audience, stressing the importance of body language and of voice power...) |
