Course contents :  
a cWritten expression (letters, emails, summaries of texts, press articles, reports); Oral expression (lecture presentations, professional interviews, presentation of results in front of a group); The course is divided into three modules: 1) Written and audiovisual media in France and Belgium, 2) The job of a translator-interpreter, 3) Knowledge of the audience.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Students will be able to draft a range of documents such as letters, summaries, press articles and reports. Students will write in impeccable French while demonstrating brevity and readability. Students will adapt their style and methods to the objective, the medium and the audience(s). Students will be able to analyse a press article or a report from a TV news programme while taking into account the broadcaster's ideology.

No particular pre-requisites.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course is based on exercises supplemented with theoretical explanations. Some sessions will be devoted to research work carried out in groups and oral presentations by students. Invited speakers will bring their professional insight to the course, on the specifics of the job of a translator-interpreter. Several sessions, such as the analysis of written and audiovisual media or the interview with translators and interpreters, require a certain element of personal investment by students outside class hours. Based on exercises carried out in class or at home and based on theoretical contributions which can have a practical application, teaching will focus on student participation, interactions within the group and individual involvement.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Continuous assessment (40% of the grade) covering: - written work carried out in class and at home; - various oral presentations carried out in front of the group; - participation in class.
In January: Written exam including open questions and possibly one or more multiple choice questions.
