Course contents :
|
| Translation of general interest texts with different levels of language, different registers and a variety of domains. Approach to the cultural references encountered in the texts. Notions of contrastive linguistics. Initiation in the procedures and problems of translation. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| At the end of the course, students will be able to translate general interest texts, i.e. analyse them and transmit and reformulate the meaning. They will be able to use basic translation tools (monolingual and bilingual dictionaries) and take into account the specificities of the source and target languages. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
|
| Good functional knowledge of Dutch. Very good command of the target language. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
|
| Individual and collective translation exercises. |
|
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
|
| One hour of lesson per week in the first and second quadrimesters. Compulsory classes.
Written preparation of translations at home. Comparison and group critical correction of the work prepared individually. Elaboration of a final joint version. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| - 25 % of the mark: written exam in January
- 75 % of the mark: written exam at the end of the academic year (translation and exercises similar to those done in class) |

| This course is taught in a classroom of the HEL, rue Hazinelle, n°2.
Some classes will be planned in the computer room, in the same building. |
