Modelling in Agrometeorology

  • Description of the soil-plant-atmosphere relationship : emprical and conceptual approaches
Estimation and forecasting of agricultural productions:

  • Stake
  • European crop growth monitoring system
  • FAO philosophy
  • Integrated approaches of crop and climate models: needs and challenges
Water management in agriculture:

  • Stake
  • Crop soil energy and water balance
  • Water flux calculation and water management in irrigated condition
  • Plant water stress spatial estimation with field and remote sensing approaches
Food security and climate change

  • Stakes
  • Atmsophere evolution (UV, temperature, [CO2], [O3],...)
  • Crop answers to climate change
  • From meteo grid to field: impact of scale change
  • Climate change, food global imput and famine risk
Diseases early warning systems

  • Stake
  • Application to cryptogamic diseases
  • Application to fight against locusts
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Starting from the course of Basic in Agrometeorology, this course will show some agrometerological applications used in order to strenghten agricultural activities and improve livelihood in the rural world. Application fields concern :

  • Yield and production forecasting
  • Water management in irrigation schemes
  • Food security and climate change
  • Diseases early warning systems
  • Crop frost protection
Most models used are operational models applied at national, european or international levels.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Basic of Agrometeorology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Practical works will take the bigest part of this course. They will mostly consist of learning several operational agrometeorological models.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Lessons are organized per half-days. Theory is alternated with exercises and practical works.
