ELEC0039-1  Network Electromechanical Performance

Duration :  30h Th, 30h Pr
Number of credits :
Master in Electro-mechanical Engineering, research focus, 2nd year5
Lecturer :  Jean-Louis Lilien
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
All year long
Course contents :
Aeolian vibrations - wake induced and galloping (20h). Electrmechanical behaviour of substations during short-circuit (8h). Earthquake and other dynamic problems (2h).
Learning outcomes of the course :
Giving opportunity to look for severe non-linear complex problems having impact on the design of overhead electrical lines and substations. The physics, the equations of the phenomenon ar described and particular attention is devoted to the understanding of some particular problems like instabilities, limit cycle. Multidisciplinary approaches are needed.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
fluid mechanics, vibrations, stability of systems, electricity, modal approach, including eigenfrequencies, material behaviour, thermodynamics
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
computer simulations on projects (substations, overhead lines)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
7 lectures (4hours) and exercices
Recommended or required readings :
distributed during lectures
Assessment methods and criteria :
oral examination in June
Work placement(s) :
Organizational remarks :
Recommended lecture :
Brochure CIGRE N° 106 sur les effets mécaniques des courants de court-circuit dans les postes ouverts. (publication CIGRE, Paris, 1996)
