| This course is given through seminars where the students work in small groups on three biomedical themes. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| The principal objective of those seminars is to improve the capacity of the students to integrate some concepts previously learnt through the different biomedical courses of the first year. The other goals of those seminars consist of the introduction to concept mapping and other techniques, and to work within small collaborative groups. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| The course is open ONLY to students that have succeeded for the course of General Biology AND that are admitted to the second part of the first year in Medicine. This course is in relation with the Transdisciplinary approach to learning medical problems - Scientific Approach, given in the first part of the year, and to the Problem-Based Learning system which takes place during second and third years. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| This course is given through three seminars where the students work in small groups on three biomedical themes. The practical aspects of the work will be explained at the introductive session. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
 |
| Six sessions with compulsory attendance will take place and three additional moments will be dedicated to personal and/or group homeworks. |

Recommended or required readings :
 |
| These seminars rely on the courses of General Biology, General Physiology and Biochemistry, Introduction to Human Anatomy and General Histology. Students will receive appropriate documents through the intranet (on line course APPR0332) or by e-mail. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
 |
| A complete attendance to the seven sessions is necessary to validate this course. If the student comes to 6 seminars, the score of the exam is 8 points ; if the student comes to 5 seminars, the score is 6 points ; if the student comes to 4 seminars, the score is 4 points ; if the student is absent more than 2 times, the score is Absent. In addition, the quality of each presentation by the group will be juged, for a total of 0 to 12 points. |
