This work experience consists of two parts.

The students will design (and/or adapt), implement and examine the teaching and learning activities in a group of pupils or in a whole class. They will analyze how the activity is carried out and they will measure its effects on pupils.
The second part focuses on the links between different analytical frameworks for the analysis of learning-teaching activities: - The language aspects of learning - The continuity of learnings - The socio-cognitive misunderstandings
Learning outcomes of the course :
Upon completion of the course students should be able to
As for the first part : - design or adapt current learning and teaching activities that help to improve the targeted skills and knowledge and to analyze the conditions of implementation - examine mistakes, difficulties and procedures mobilized by the pupils during these activities - assess the learning outcomes - look at these activities in a reflexive way
As for the second part: Mobilize and combine different frameworks in order to analyse some didactic designs according to two dimensions: professional skills of teachers and pupils knowledge construction
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Students who take the Formation pédagogique approfondie pour l'enseignement fondamental et secondaire inférieur module must undertake this work experience during the same academic year they attend the Enseignement et apprentissage des sciences course.
This work experience (partim 2) is to be completed after the first part (partim 1) of this module. In other words, YSTG9010-A-a is to be completed before the YSGT9013-A-a.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The first part will be linked to the Enseignement et apprentissage des sciences course. The practical arrangements will be defined during the course.
As for the second part, the methodology will consist of alternating: launch sessions, field placements and support seminars.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
As for the first part, the guidelines for the placement and the guidelines for the analysis of the first results will be integrated in the Enseignement et apprentissage des sciences course. An additional session could possibly be scheduled in order to deal with the in-depth analyses of the first results.
As for the second part, some launch sessions and support seminars will be scheduled according to a timetable which has still to be established. Those seminars will probably take place on Saturdays.
Recommended or required readings :
The first part of the placement is linked to the Enseignement et apprentissage des sciences course (see the reading folder of this course).
As for the other parts of the work placement, some additional readings will be suggested.
Assessment methods and criteria :
A report dealing with both parts of the work placement. As for each part, the criteria will be defined. Both reports must be returned in order to get a mark for the work experience. (If one report is missing, the mark for this work experience will be "0").
Work placement(s) :
Organizational remarks :
As for the first part of the internship, it will be possible to make the placements in one's classroom, in one's school or in another school.
The second part of the placement implies various observations in contexts with different school levels and different socioeconomic levels. In other words, it won't be possible to undertake this second part only in one's classroom, neither in one's school only. Since those observations have to take place during the school year, it will be necessary to have draw several times half a day off. Beyond the classroom observations, this part of the internship could require some interviews of teachers and/or pupils, some analyses of textbooks and/or of various methodological tools.
