Course contents :  
This training aims at consolidating the student knowledge and skills to the understanding of the scientific literature on international large scale surveys in education conducted by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (in particular the PISA, IALS, ALLS, PIAAC, TALIS surveys) and by the International Association for the Evaluation of Student Achievement (IEA) (in particular the TIMSS and PIRLS surveys).
Students will have to extend their knowledge on statistical models, so that they deeply understand the survey results; they can contextualize them depending on the structure and contexts of educational systems of participating countries, and they can explain these results to an uninformed audience.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Students will have :
1. To extend their knowledge on statistics by autonomously consult the scientific literature and by sharing with the professor their misunderstanding or misconceptions;
2. To understand the results of an international survey and to depict the major results they will have to present to an uninformed audience;
3. To contextualize the results;
4. To design some educational or policy recommendations for the efficiency and equity of the Belgian French speaking educational system.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Students will have to write a report of about 30 pages that presents an international survey and summarize the major results for an uninformed audience.
