Course contents :  
Several themes are developed in this course:
- The role of problems in teaching and learning mathematics - Problem-solving: a complex mathematical modeling approach - The regulation of the learnings - The external assessments in mathematics - The first numerical learnings - Symbolization and communication in mathematical learning - Proportionality, fractions, decimals and percentages - Transition from elementary school to secondary school in mathematics - Students with learning difficulties
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Students will understand the underlying theoretical foundations of the different themes and better understand some aspects of the cognitive development of pupils towards mathematics learning to :
- identify issues related to the learning of basic mathematical concepts; - (better) interpret errors, difficulties and informal strategies of students - take a critical look at different teaching and learning activities; - develop didactical designs for the development of specific knowledge and skills; - assess learning achieved by students in various didactical designs
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
It is recommended to attend two courses below before or during the same academic year :
- Analyse critique des courants psychopédagogiques (Marcel CRAHAY - - PEDA2174-1)
- Analyse des processus d'enseignement (Dominique LAFONTAINE - PEDA1051-3)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The methodology will consist of alternating theoretical presentations, analyses of student productions and analyses of teaching / learning activities.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course is organized in the form of 15 face-to-face modules of 3 hours each. Six modules will be organized on Saturday afternoon (from 13 to 16) and nine during school holidays (3 sessions in autumn, 3 sessions in carnival and 3 sessions in spring).
The course is completed by two types of home-works (distance-learning): on the one hand, the reading of a texts folder and on the other hand, the test of a teaching / learning activity and a written report.
Recommended or required readings :  
A reading folder corresponding to the different themes developed in the course will be available.
Some complementary texts could also be given in order to go further into some topics.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Written exams.
The report about the testing of the activity (see above) will be account for 20% of the overall score. If this report is missing, the mark for this course will be "0".
Work placement(s) :  
The students who follow the option "Formation pédagogique approfondie pour l'enseignement fondamental et secondaire inférieur" must complete the part1 of the work experience linked to the module during the same academic year that they attend the courses "l'enseignement / apprentissage des mathématiques et du français". Organizational remarks :  
The work related to the test of the activity may be carried out in her/his own class, in her/his own school or in another school.
