Course contents :  
This seminar aims at teaching students how to develop
  • achievement tests in different domains;
  • contextuel questionnaires.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The learning outcomes of this seminar are the following ones :
  • reflect about an assessment framework; select skills, processes, contents and aspects to assess, develop an assessment linked to a referential of competences;
  • identify in the framework which aspects impact on item difficulty;
  • apply the technical guidelines in order to build items and questionnaires;
  • collect accurately data and code the data in an appropriate way;
  • perform the appropriate analyses in order to check for the psychometric properties of the tests: IRT models, Cronbach alphas, factorial analysis...;
  • interpret the analyses and draw the conclusions for reviewing the instruments;
  • write a report presenting the results of the tests and questionnaires.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Theory and practical classes are closely linked. The approach is problem-based learning. After a couple of theoretical classes, students have to build, analyse, revise an achievement test and/or background questionnaire.

Extracts from textbooks in English and a synthesis in French will be available.
