| HYDR0006-3 | Modelling of transfers in soils, 2nd part

| Duration : | 12h Th, 12h Pr |
| Number of credits : |
| Lecturer : | Aurore Degré |
Language(s) of instruction :
| French language |
Organisation and examination :
| Teaching in the second semester |
Course contents :
| This second part aims at enlarging the view of the students in order to cover different types of models. The comparison between several modelling schemes allows us to deal with the quantification of performances, the calibration technics and the choice of the model regarding the problem to solve. We focus on topics related to the bio-engineering context.
The course includes
An analysis of the different modelling schemes
An analysis of the different representations of flow, transfer and transformation of water and solutes, with particular emphasis on nitrogen cycle.
An overview of the existing databases useful for model parametrization
The calibration and validation techniques, including objective functions. |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| At the end of the course, the student will be able to
Present and discuss different hydrological modelling schemes
Choose the adequate model to deal with a given scientific or technic problem
Calibrate and validate simple hydrological models
Discuss the water movement representations and solute transfer and degradation within major hydrologic models |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| Water transfer modelling (1st part)
General Hydrology
Water movement in soils
Pedology |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| lectures and computer workshops |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| 12h lectures
12h workshops |
Recommended or required readings :
| slideshows and reference books and articlesavailable on eCampus |
Assessment methods and criteria :
| The student has to write an individual report before the end of the period. If his/her note is equal or above 16/20, then he/she doesn't need to attend the examination.
If his/her note is below 16/20, the oral examination has to be done. It includes a pratical and a theoritical part. |
Work placement(s) :
| |
Organizational remarks :
| This course is hybrid (partially given in english). Documentation and supports are in english, as well as the main lectures.
workshop are in french (exept for foreign students if english is prefered).
The final report can be written in french but includes an abstract in english, reviewed by the english teachers.
Several activities are proposed by the english teachers on the basis of the course'supports. These activities are detailled in the course description related to "specialized english" (LANG2956). They represent 30h of student work. |
