Contenus du cours :

| The course presents some of the most important recent developments in ethnic and migration studies. It is the logical follow-up of the introductory course « Sociology of Migration ». During the introductory session, we shall examine the formation and the evolution of ethnic and migration studies as a specific field of social and political research. We shall then move on to examine 3 of the most important « new » issues in the field:
- Environmental changes, migration and displacement (3 sessions by François Gemenne)
- transnationalism (3 sessions by Jean-Michel Lafleur):
- Popular culture, migration and ethnicity (3 sessions by Marco Martiniello)
The final session will be an open discussion with the 3 teachers. |

| The aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of some of the most important recent developments in ethnic and migration studies. |

| THIS IS NOT A LANGUAGE COURSE !
A passive and active knowledge of written and spoken English is a very strong advantage.
Having taken the course « Sociology of Migration » is an advantage. |

| The course could use 3 pedagogical tools : - Lectures by the teachers: Marco Martiniello, François Gemenne et Jean-Michel Lafleur - Seminars based on the reading and discussion of texts as well as on presentations made by students
-Lectures given by external guests.
The students are required to prepare each session by reading the paper(s) assigned weekly.
IF THERE ARE LESS THAN 10 STUDENTS REGISTERED, THE COURSE WILL BE REPLACED BY THE WRITING OF AN ORIGINAL PAPER UNDER THE CLOSE SUPERVISION OF ONE OF THE PROFESSORS. |
