| Project Management is a "way-of-working" companies use to deliver results in line with the needs and expectations of their customers. Project manager is empowered to achieve project objectives whilst balancing the constraints of performance, schedule, cost, quality and resources.
The following concepts will be described:
- Project Life Cycle (Melexis as practical case)
- The 5 project management processes (initiating, planning, executing / implementing, monitoring and reporting, closing)
- Risk Management (Melexis as practical case)
- Problem Solving techniques
- Customer Orientation |

| - Development of new dedicated competencies (uncovered so far)
- Exposure to concrete development process used to manage projects in companies ( "project manager" role)
- Practical view of the role of an engineer in the industry
- Professional handling of your Master Thesis as a project for which the student is the Project Manager |

| 10 hours to introduce the theoretical concepts based on industrial standards, using Melexis tools and examples (1st semester)
20 hours to apply the concepts during the Master Thesis (2nd semester). As examples:
- Project charter (define projects goals, constraints, plan)
- Risk assessment and mitigation
- Progress and status reporting
- Problem solving techniques |

| Evaluation based on the applications of the project management concepts during the Master thesis (e.g. project scope, risk assessment, key progress indicator, problem solving techniques, ..). Oral exams to present the concrete application of the concepts during the Master thesis |

| Theoretical parts on Wednesday from 9H to 11H (exact timing to be agreed with the students) from 6 November 13 till 11 December 13.
Workshop to support the student to apply the theoretical concepts in the Master thesis on Friday 14 February 14, Friday 21 February 14, Friday 14 March, Friday 21 March 14 and Thursday 3 April 14 between 9 and 13H (exact timing to be agreed with the students). |
