Course contents :  
1. Definition and use of the plant protection products 2. The market of the PPP 3. EU regulations 3.1. Authorization and placing on the market 3.2. Prohibition and restriction 3.3. Classification - packaging - labelling 3.4. Maximum residue limits (foodstuffs and water) - Codex alimentarius 3.5. Import and export of dangerous chemicals 4. National regulation (specifics and formulations registration) 5. Toxicology : testing procedures and assessement criterias 6. Method to establish the maximum residue limits 7. Ecotoxicology : testing procedures and assessement criterias 8. Hazard and risk assessement 9. Introduction to REACH, the EU legislation for registration of Chemicals 10.Introduction to the european biocide legislation and link with the plant protection laws.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To provide the european and national requirements and guidelines about the authorization procedure for the placing on the market of plant protection products;
To make students understand the dynamics, constraints and forces which determine de regulatory frame relative to the placing on the market of plant protection products;
To provide a suitable basis in toxicology and ecotoxicology in such a manner that the students can be immediatly efficient in the field of the registration of products.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- identify the challenges of the european plant protection legislation and its evolution;
- to feedbackon, to use and to make a correct interpretation of toxicology, ecotoxicology and environmental fate end points;
- Identify critical end point values for toxicological, ecotoxicolgical and environmental fate criteria in the evaluation summary of a plant protection product;
- write a registration file, section ecotoxicology;
- Find out registration relevant information in the main data sources.
