The course includes formal lectures which will be as interactive as possible on the one hand and practical sessions on the other.

It is primarily used to give the students practical information about the course.

For the practical part of the coure, we will use the following books:

  • De Kleijn, P. (2007). Goed verbonden: grotere woordenschat door kennis van de juiste combinatie. Amsterdam: Rozenberg Publishers.
  • Stumpel, R. (2004). Konnex: uitdrukkingen en vaste verbindingen in de Nederlandse taal. Thieme Meulenhoff.
Reference books (for the theoretical part) are:

Assessment methods and criteria :  
The evaluation consist of an oral examen and a written exam. Vocabulary tests will also be organized during the course.
The written exam includes the following parts:
  • theoretical issues discussed in the course;
  • exercices related to these theoretical issues;
  • an essay;
  • a reading proficiency exercise;
  • a listening proficiency exercise;
  • the vocabulary of the books "Presse écrite" and "Goed verbonden";
The oral exam includes the following parts:
  • the presentation of a Dutch or Flemish soap;
  • the vocabulary of the newspaper articles;
  • the content of the neswpapar articles (discussion).
The final grade will be determined as follows:
  • Theoretical part (20%)(written exam).
  • Vocabulary (20%)(written exam+tests)
  • Speaking proficiency (25%)(oral exam+presentation of a soap)
  • Writing proficiency (25%)(written exam)
  • Reading and listening proficiency (10%)(written exam).
If one student fails for one of these parts, the final grade will be 8/20. S/he will then have to retake the parts for which s/he didn't get 12/20.
The oral and written exams of the first session will take place during the june exam session. The oral and written exams of the second session will take place during the september exam session.
