Course contents :  
Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with education. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
Allowing students to speak about various topics related to education through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2/C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the preparatory year and 1st-Master's courses.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Weekly 2-hour class in a group of 25 students from February to May 2012.
Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress regularly.

Coursebook Level C English - 2ème Master en sciences de l'éducation, available at Intercopy.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
1. Oral presentation (/4)
On a text from the coursebook as well as on another text (chosen by students) dealing with the same topic (+outline, summary and slides)
2. Written exam (/8):
reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text, vocabulary, writing exercise: MCQ and open questions.
3. Oral exam (/4) texts from the coursebook and text of the oral presentation
4. Listening comprehension exam (/3)
5. Written assignment (/1) A1/2-page astract of an article
N.B. The marks obtained for work done during the year count for both exam sessions.
