Course contents :  
The topics we are going to deal with are : 1/ Energy and climate 2/ Food 3/ Agriculture 4/ Education for sustainable development
Each topic includes a. integrated speaking activities (structured argumentation on the basis of a semi-authentic source); b. listening and reading comprehension activities (bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/multimedia (http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/multimedia), New Scientist, etc.); c. writing activities (summarize scientific articles); d. grammar and vocabulary exercises.
"Soft skills" like oral presentation, team work or autonomy are an integral part of the course.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, the student will reach Level B1- (on his way to B1 'Independent User' - Low) of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. After completing the course the student is expected to 1/ understand the main points of clear standard speech on study-related matters; 2/ orally report source documents in a simple but structured way; 3/ understand the main points of a simple semi-authentic audio or video document when the delivery is relatively slow and clear; 4/ understand simple written texts; 5/ write simple and structured texts (summarize scientific articles).
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The student must have reached the A2 level (beginner) in English on the reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
