Course contents :  
The topics we are going to deal with are: Cereals; Soils; Food stuff; Livestock; Aquaculture; Forestry; Farm management; Agriculture and technology; Ethics.
Each topic includes a. integrated speaking activities (structured argumentation and giving an opinion on the basis of a semi-authentic source); b. integrated writing activities (structured reports on the basis of a semi-authentic source); c. listening and reading activities; d. grammar (use of articles; passive; relative clauses; indirect speech; use of future tenses, conditional and hypotheses) and vocabulary exercises.
"Soft skills" like oral presentation, team work or autonomy are an integral part of the course.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, the student will reach the B1+ level (on his/her way to acquire a Higher Intermediate level) of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (Council of Europe). After completing the course the student is expected to 1/ understand the main points of complex study-related discourses in standard speech, provided the discourse is clearly structured; 2/ identify and understand the main conclusions of an argumentative text (oral or written) in which the authors adopt particular viewpoints; 3/ make a clear, detailed and structured report (oral or written) which develops an argument, giving reasons in support of or against a particular viewpoint and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of various options as well as his personal opinion on the subject; 4/ interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers possible; take part in discussions on study-related topics.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The student must have reached the B1- level (Independent User - Low) in English on the reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
