Course contents :  
  • reading and listening comprehension, oral, grammatical, vocabulary and translation exercises based on Terzake, leerboek A, éd. Erasme, Frank Ghesquière & Verena Schmitz
  • some cultural and historical aspects as well as specific Dutch habits and features
  • Interaction will be emphasised
  • Level to be reached: A2 in the CEFR
Learning outcomes of the course :  
  • Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language and the basic structures of the Dutch language
  • Improving the four language skills, namely reading and listening comprehension, oral and written expression, though with emphasis on oral comprehension and expression.
  • Using communicative functions related to the fields of study and work (introducing oneself, introducing a colleague, speak about his daily routine, to register for a training, to ask the way, ...)
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
  • Exercises based on dialogue and reading comprehension
  • Written and oral exercises on basic structures of the language
  • role playing
  • non supervised work: various preparations (more of it if 4 credits)

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Exam in two parts:
Written examination (70% of the final mark) consisting of - vocabulary exercises - grammatical exercises - reading comprehension - listening comprehension
Oral examination (30% of the final mark): role playing and presentation of an article from Wablieft
The assessment is based on the criteria from the European Frame of Reference: - coherence of speech - the range of vocabulary - grammatical control - fluency - interaction
Note: A request for a rating of presence or absence for a part of the examination automatically results in a rating of presence or absence for the whole. Relative weighting of the individual evaluation: 100%

For students who don't go on Erasmus, the course will take place during the first term and the exam will be in January.
