| « Observer et comparer. Notions fondamentales d'iconographie ». Ce cours de deuxième année est une initiation à l'analyse iconographique de l'oeuvre d'art - plus spécifiquement de l'iconographie occidentale (mythologie gréco-romaine, tradition biblique et variations périphériques, récits historiques, symboles et blasons). Il couvre à la fois - et sous une approche similaire - les thèmes antiques et chrétiens. Ce cours se veut avant tout méthodologique. Après une introduction théorique sont exposés les différents outils utiles à l'analyse iconographique. Ensuite, les éléments de lecture de l'image, les thèmes et les types, puis les scènes narratives sont successivement abordés, à partir d'une série de cas figures particuliers. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| Ce cours de BAC 2 (HAAR0026-1) a pour ambition d'amener l'étudiant à maîtriser les principes et la pratique de l'analyse iconographique d'une représentation figurée. En d'autres termes, il s'agit de familiariser l'étudiant avec les principaux thèmes de l'art antique et de l'art chrétien. Les objectifs d'apprentissage majeurs peuvent se résumer à trois points précis : prises de notes synthétiques en cours - travail de synthèse et de vérification en bibliothèque - maîtrise des encyclopédies et des ouvrages fondamentaux. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| None - bearing in mind that the History of Art and Archaeology of Greek-Roman Antiquity is only one element of the indissociable whole of the Sciences of Antiquity (history, philology, and the history of religion). |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| For BAC students, regular presence in class is required, as well as analytical study and verification work in the library, which is required in order to cover all the material presented. These hours of personal study throughout the year should be equivalent (or greater than) the number of hours in class. It is also advised the the foundations are laid on the basis of bibliographical and iconographical information. |
