Bachelor in engineering sciences, civil ingineer in architecture orientation, 3rd year6
Master in Civil Engineering, in-depth approach, 1st year5
Master in Civil Engineering, specialized approach, 1st year5
Lecturer :  Jean-Marc Franssen
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the second semester
Course contents :
Graphical determination of the diagrams of effects of actions in staticaly determinate structures. Elastic methods of structural analysis : Introduction - Basic theorems - Flexibility method (classical) - Stiffness method (classical, simplified, use of software) - Moment distribution method - Trusses - Influence lines Plastic global analysis (basic theorems, static and kinematic methods) - Basic notions of critical load - Second order effects Worked examples.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The course begins by the graphic determination of diagrams of effects of action in statically determinate structures.
This course is particularly dedicated to the analysis of statically undeterminate structures.
Deliver the background of the methods of global analysis and train to the determination of internal forces and displacements in a given structure subjected to a given loading.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Strength of materials - Elementary statics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
A substantial part of the lectures is devoted to exercises and worked examples.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Lectures and exercises are organised alternately. Some marked exercices are organised during the courses, with advance notice to the students.
Usually, the course is organised in spring, on Thursday afternoon, from 1:30 to 5:30
Recommended or required readings :
Available.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Separate oral (theory) and written (exercises) examinations.

30% for the marked exrecices
