Course contents :
|
| The object of this course is the analysis of some general topics concerning the human rights in a European context, chosen by the teacher and the students. The first year of this course, the course treated the birth of the European system of human rights and their typical characteristics, the rights of the child, and certain health rights-oriented topics (abortion, euthanasia, treatment of people with mental disorders,....).The students can themselves suggest some topics they're interested in. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| The study and analysis of general human rights topics serves as a pretext for an interactive course in Dutch, where students have to improve and exercise their written and above all their spoken level of the Dutch language. The course is interactive: the students have to participate and have to express their opinion in Dutch. In a course of another language, using the correct (typical juridical) language is as important as the juridical content. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
|
| A minimal level of active knowledge of the Dutch language is necessary to make it possible to fully participate in the course where the presence of the student is essential. A specific knowledge of the human rights theory is not a prerequisite. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
|
| The students have to prepare each course by reading its documentation, this is vital to make an active discussion in Dutch possible. |
|
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
|
| Classical ex-cathedra course of 2 hours with the active participation of the students, based on the analysis of certain juridical texts written in Dutch on the Human rights. The course is on the program every academical year. |

Recommended or required readings :
|
| The teacher distributes the material, enabling the students to read on and reflect on the topic. The students make notes. |
|
Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| Permanent evaluation with accent on the oral language and an individual presentation for all the other students based on the 'mindmap'-technique. |

| The presence and personal participation of the student during the courses is relevant for his evaluation. |
