CHIM0689-1  Introduction to polymers and surfactants : formulation and applications

Duration :  25h Th
Number of credits :
Master en biochimie et biologie moléculaire et cellulaire, à finalité spécialisée en bio-industrie, 2nd year3
Lecturer :  Christine Jérôme
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Course contents :
The course includes an introduction to some basics on polymers in order to understand the following chapters:
- colloidal systems
-characterization of colloids (particles size, solution properties, rheology)
-stabilisation of dispersed systems and formulation
-encapsulation technologies illustrated by specific examples of the pharmaceutical industry
-regulation aspects (reach)
Learning outcomes of the course :
Give main tools in order to be able to formulate a compound
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
General chemistry
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Besides introductory lectures on general concept of formulation, the students will be trained on various characterization methods in our research lab (DLS, TEM, rheology).
They will be then asked to propose an answer to an actual formulation question in order to practice the previous concepts. Propositions will be discussed and checked in lab by themselves but always under the guidance of the teacher.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
face-to-face
Recommended or required readings :
