Course contents :  
Object and methods of psychology; historical sketch; psychological issues presented through five major perspectives : biological, psychodynamic, behavioural, humanistic and cognitive. General overview of psychology.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Introduction to the basic concepts of scientific psychology. Acquisition of general knowledge and introduction to the main research methods in psychology. The course helps developing critical thinking relatively to psychological issues. It constitutes a first approach to the use of the scientific method in answering fundamental or applied research questions. First approach of questions relative to mental health and psychotherapy. It will also be question of considering the way some main concepts like personality, emotion, motivation or psychological troubles are viewed from the different psychological perspectives.

First semester (30 hours).

Assessment methods and criteria :  
Written exam (MCQ and discussion questions).
