Course contents :  
This course is a general introduction to the aquaculture world (mainly marine aquaculture world).
Aquaculture is replaced in its socio-economical context, its historical context and its environmental context. Basic general techniques are presented and applied to the different marine taxa presently cultivated.
This course is informative and concerns students without a background in aquaculture.
A visit at the experimental pisciculture of Tihange (University of Liege) illustrates the main aquaculture characteristics exposed during the oral course.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
1. To present general aspect of marine aquaculture (concept, technics, diversity) 2. To place marine aquaculture in its socio-economical context
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
none
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Visit at the pisciculture of Tihange (CEFRA, ULg). Dissection of a mussel, a decapods crustacean and a marine fish (2 x 3h00).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Schedule to be determined with student. One afternoon for the visit at Tihange.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
oral exam or summary of a scientific paper or work illustrating a project of marine aquaculture.
