MATH0469-1  Differential geometry III

Duration :  30h Th, 10h Pr, 20h Mon. WS
Number of credits :
Master in Mathematical Sciences, in-depth approach, 2nd yearToute l'année10
Lecturer :  Pierre Mathonet
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
In this course, we will essentially study the theory of finite dimensional Lie algebras.
We will focus on classical concepts such as solvable, nilpotent, or semi-simple Lie algebras.
We will also study the representation theory of (semi-simple) Lie algebras and expose the classification of finite dimensional complex simple Lie algebras.
Finally, we will expose a few generalizations of Lie algebras (Lie superalgebras for instance).
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
A good knowledge of linear algebra and basic knowledge of differential geometry are necessary.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Face-to-face
Assessment methods and criteria :
The students should give an oral presentation of some themes studied during the lectures (exam).
They can also be asked to give a presentation on a topic involving the theory developed in the lectures. This topic is determined by the teacher.
