| Introduction to linguistic analysis, based on a few practical cases. |

| By the end of the course, students will be able to analyse linguistic information in written and spoken Spanish, by consulting corpus and researching scientific literature in the field and current theories. |

| Practical work will be integrated into the course. This consists of analysis of extracts from corpus (oral and written). These extracts will come from consultation of (free) online corpus such as

Students should prepare by reading scientific articles. The course consists of more advanced reading of articles as well as the application of analysis to several concrete themes, such as references to person and impersonal constructions, discursive markers and linguistic politeness. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| 20%: continuous assessment, including preparatory reading, participation in class, contributing concrete examples from daily life (emails, conversations, reading other than that required during class)
40%: personal work (application of analysis covered in class)
40%: oral exam: the oral exam consists of a discussion of the individual piece of work as well as general questions |
